Organic oat bran is the nutrient-rich outer layer of the oat grain and is a good source of fiber and protein. NOW Real Food® Organic Oat Bran is an excellent addition to most baked goods and is primarily used to increase fiber content. It adds texture and a subtle, nutty flavor that is ideal for bread and muffins, and it is a flavorful addition to cereals or as a topping on bread and muffins that adds color and enhances taste.
Research on organic oat bran
Soluble fibers from foods such as oat bran, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease. One serving of NOW Real Food® Organic Oat Bran provides 2 grams of the 3 grams of soluble fiber from oat bran needed per day to have this effect.
Uses of organic oat bran
To use as a hot cereal, simmer 2/3 cup oat bran in 2 cups of water for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add salt, raisins, or flavors to taste. Serves two. Optional: Add 1 tsp of olive oil or avocado oil for extra creaminess.
Store in a cool, dry place.
